The History of the Internet

This video gives a basic overview of how the internet we know today was created. One reason I think it's important to know this background is that it helps to explain how things work today. For example, it emphasizes the importance of standards. Without the development of the TCP/IP standard, the internet could not grow due to incompatibilities between systems. It also highlights the distributed aspect of the system. When competition between internet service providers is reduced, more of the service provision becomes concentrated and loss of access by large numbers of people become more likely.
