Office hours this week

Just a reminder that I have office hours today from 1:30-3 pm and on Thursday from 1:30-3 pm as well. This is a good time to come by and visit or to call me in my office (612-659-6296 or 800-247-0911 x6296).

Chats for my classes

A few of you in various classes have asked me about chats/webinars for the classes. Historically, I've held regular synchronous chats or web meetings and participation in them, while voluntary, is recommended and promoted as part of class participation. However, this semester with 4 classes, all of them different, I have decided to only have them on an "as-needed" basis in my classes. If there's some content that I think lends itself better to that kind of presentation or discussion, I will hold a chat or webinar. Unless there's some exceptional circumstances, I will strive to give you at least 1 week's notice.

If you see a need to have them more often, I encourage you to contact me.

There are also other face-to-face opportunities for program students: The next one coming up is the Thai dinner night, for which you should have received an invitation. There will also be the Library Futures webinar event, Cataloging: New Perspectives, on April 8. Tentatively scheduled for Sunday April 10 is a cataloging day at Shir Tikvah Library.

And of course, there is always one-to-one contact via email, a phone call, or a meeting.

Wow, what the heck happened to this week! I blinked, and it's Thursday and I haven't hardly been in the class space, and now I have two late meetings for work and another meeting for one of my other hats (my Dragon Diva hat) tonight.


So, if you've posted a question to me, or other general course questions, or are just wondering when in the heck we're going to start working on something, uh, I'm working on it!

Bookstore News

Those of you waiting for texts, this is the news I received today from the bookstore:

The list price for the LIBT 2200 Cataloging and Classification textbook is $60.00 (I confirmed it with Books in Print). This is what we are selling it for. It's the same book you've used the past 2 years, soft cover.

Moral Vision was ordered last week…it is a "print on demand" book, therefore, it took a little extra time to get (re-order). We expect it in today or tomorrow. Questioning Library Neutrality will be in today as well.

I am not ordering any more books to fill shelves. I am re-ordering books we have orders for online since Financial Aid charging has ended.

Changes in course designators

Oh, the wacky machinations of higher education.

During Spring Semester 2010, the coding for MCTC Library Information Technology career program courses was changed from INFS (Information Studies) to LIBT, although they are all taught by Information Studies faculty and offered by the Information Studies department. So, as we move forward in the tagging for this blog, you'll start to see courses tagged LIBT 1200, LIBT 2210, LIBT 2200, LIBT 2900. Those are the same as the ones that had been tagged previously as INFS 1200, INFS 2210, INFS 2200, INFS 2900. But, some courses I teach (INFS 1000) stay with the INFS coding.
