Chats for my classes

A few of you in various classes have asked me about chats/webinars for the classes. Historically, I've held regular synchronous chats or web meetings and participation in them, while voluntary, is recommended and promoted as part of class participation. However, this semester with 4 classes, all of them different, I have decided to only have them on an "as-needed" basis in my classes. If there's some content that I think lends itself better to that kind of presentation or discussion, I will hold a chat or webinar. Unless there's some exceptional circumstances, I will strive to give you at least 1 week's notice.

If you see a need to have them more often, I encourage you to contact me.

There are also other face-to-face opportunities for program students: The next one coming up is the Thai dinner night, for which you should have received an invitation. There will also be the Library Futures webinar event, Cataloging: New Perspectives, on April 8. Tentatively scheduled for Sunday April 10 is a cataloging day at Shir Tikvah Library.

And of course, there is always one-to-one contact via email, a phone call, or a meeting.

Office hours today

Just a reminder that I have office hours today from 1:30-3 pm. This is a good time to call me or stop by to check in. My office hours this semester are from 1:30-3 pm each Tuesday and Thursday.

Sometimes I have campus meetings that I need to attend, and they may impinge on my office hours, so I always recommend calling ahead or emailing me to confirm that I'll be available when you are.

Student IDs

Just a friendly reminder that MCTC Campus Cards/Students IDs will be produced in the same location as past terms, Cafeteria side of T1000 effective tomorrow (Saturday).

And, a tip... If you're on campus and buying food/drinks here in the cafeteria or up at the coffee bar, if you put money on your "Maverick Card," you get a discount of something like 10%.

New Student Email Accounts

New Microsoft Windows Live Email for Students
MCTC is introducing a new official email service for all students at MCTC. Starting January 10, 2011, all students will receive an MCTC e-mail account using Microsoft Windows Live. MCTC is excited to offer this new email service to improve student communications and serve as the official email for college communications.

During the week of Jan. 3 – 7, ITS will be migrating Metnet email addresses for students registered for spring term to Microsoft Windows Live email addresses in ISRS and D2L. During this week, I will continue to communicate with you via your Metnet/personal accounts.

After January 10, if your email address is not listed as username@go.minneapolis.edu, please contact the ITS Service Desk at 612-659-6600 or service.desk@minneapolis.edu.

If you need help with using your new email account, please go to the student computer lab on the third floor of the T Building (T.3200) for assistance.

MetNet is discontinuing email services in the near future. You will still have access to Metnet until further notice, but the college will use Microsoft Windows Live for all official student communications. Student H: drives will remain accessible until further notice.

MCTC Foundation Scholarships

MCTC Foundation Spring Scholarship applications are now available. There are a variety of scholarships depending on a student's area of study, career interests and grade point average. The deadline for submission is November 15 at 4 p.m.
